Flooring Calculator — Laminate & Vinyl Plank
Planks, boxes and cost for laminate or vinyl floors — with offcut reuse between rows. Free.
Enter room size, plank dimensions, expansion gap and waste. The calculator lays out the rows, reuses the offcut of each row as the starter of the next, and returns planks and boxes to order — the way a fitter actually cuts.
FAQ
How much waste should I add for laminate?
7–10% covers straight or staggered layouts in rectangular rooms. Use 12–15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns, or rooms with many angles, bays and doorways.
Why does offcut reuse matter?
The end piece cut from each row is long enough to start the next row. Reusing these offcuts instead of opening a new plank typically saves a full box on a medium room — the calculator shows the exact saving.
What is the expansion gap for?
Laminate and vinyl click floors float: they need a 10–12 mm gap at walls and fixed objects for seasonal movement. The gap is hidden by skirting or trim and is already deducted from the row length in this calculator.
